Is It Okay That We Are Gay? Inclusive Wedding Planning + Vendors in NZ

​I'm upfront about my stance on inclusivity because no one should ever have to wonder, "Is it okay that we're gay?" I want every couple, regardless of who they love, to feel comfortable and accepted when they connect with me.

​Love is Love, I'm Here To Celebrate Every Couple Who Chooses to Marry

Sadly, not all wedding vendors openly declare their support for the LGBTTQIA+ (rainbow)  community, ( but I have done so since I was a teenager. Not only was my best friend gay growing up, but I proudly performed in a speech competition about 'individualism - love, be and wear what you want' in honour of my friend Shaun ( they preferred to wear dresses and makeup) and Adam Ant and Toyah, (my pop star crushes that you would have to over 40 to know)!  

I trained as a hairdresser in the mid-1980s and witnessed first-hand the discrimination against my gay and transgender friends. It would make me upset (and mad ). I am thrilled our world is finally changing, slowly but surely.  

In 2022, I took the Pride Pledge to show my dedication to creating a safe and inclusive space for rainbow communities, both in my work and my community. It's not enough to simply follow the law in marrying couples of any sexuality or background; we must actively show our inclusivity.

For couples planning their weddings, it's a good idea to start with vendors who clearly state that they are LGBTTQIA+ (rainbow)  friendly. You can see this on their websites or social media, or better yet if its a vendor in Canterbury or Mackenzie District, just ask me!

I can personally recommend other vendors—photographers, venues, videographers, florists, cake makers, or caterers. These suggestions will consider both inclusivity and your specific wedding or elopement vision. ​
