We do not know what Grief feels like ...... until a loved one dies.
and then it will hit you....
and you will never be the same again.
Grief is a natural part of life and it sucks.
It really sucks.
It is different for each of us. It’s hard to guess just how you may react when someone you love dies.
Sometimes it can take months or years to feel grief.
Grief can rip you apart and make you numb, for others it is a constant dull ache. Some feel are overloaded with emotions and others have physical pain. Some of us have all of the above.
Whatever your usually reaction is to stress, be prepared for it to be amplified mixed in with sadness and possibly shock and anger.
Not only has your loved one died, your life has been turned upside down. It won't be the same.
With time, You will eventually forge a new life without them in it.
You will adapt - you don't get over the fact the have died.
Grief will still lurk around
and raise itself when you least expect it. Sometimes it is simple like a whiff of a smell to trigger a memory or it can be big like their birthday of anniversary of their death day.
From my own personal experiences and observations as a funeral celebrant in Timaru and South Canterbury, I have shared a few of my thoughts below on coping with grief.
